Plastic Surgery
Jeffrey A. Ascherman, MD
Chief, Plastic SurgeryDirector, Craniofacial Center
The Division of Plastic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital provides plastic and reconstructive surgery for infants and children in a setting designed to put our young patients at ease. These children often need multiple services to care for them, and our Division provides a united approach in addressing a full spectrum of conditions, including facial deformities, skin lesions, blood vessel malformations, scars, and burns. Our surgeons have advanced training in reconstructive procedures, including craniofacial surgery and microsurgery, with a goal to improve the function and appearance of children with congenital and acquired deformities. Children who come to us for care benefit from access to expertise in every specialty and the complete resources of a major children's hospital and academic medical center.
In providing expert care to our pediatric patients, our team also pays close attention to their families. The physicians and health professionals of the Division of Plastic Surgery are sensitive to the concerns of parents, ensuring open communication with all team members. Our relationships with children and their families endure over the years, and we are involved in the care of some children from birth until they are in their late teens.
At the core of the Division of Plastic Surgery is our renowned Craniofacial Center. The Craniofacial Center provides comprehensive care for infants, children and adolescents with conditions affecting the face, head, jaws, eyes and ears. These conditions may be present at or before birth, or caused by illness or accident. This treatment team includes a range of medical and surgical specialists, as well as nurses, geneticists, speech and language pathologists, audiologists, and social workers.
In addition to their clinical work, our staff are pacesetters for advancing knowledge and technology, conducting research on bone structure, bone healing, and biomedical engineering as part of our work in craniofacial therapy. We also provide outreach services in other regions of the world, including Central and South America and China. Whether we are correcting scar tissue, repairing a broken nose or reconstructing a deformed skull, children and parents at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital can rest assured that they are receiving the best possible care available.
