Mary E. D'Alton, MD
Chief, Obstetrics and Gynecology

NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, a New York State Department of Health designated Regional Perinatal Center, is dedicated to providing the highest level of expertise to care for women with high-risk pregnancies. The field of perinatal medicine includes the specialties of maternal-fetal medicine and neonatology. Physicians in maternal-fetal medicine provide specialized care for serious illness or increased pregnancy risk that can affect women and/or their unborn children. Our neonatologists diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the newborn infant.

Our physicians have pioneered many of the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques widely used by those in the fields of perinatal medicine today. Our Hospital's early neonatologists, perinatologists, and obstetricians collaborated in research that helped to shape the field of neonatology, including the development of the APGAR score, the standard testing system for evaluating a newborn.

Working closely together in a major academic medical center environment, these specialists can help assure prospective parents that they have come to an institution with the experience and resources to manage the most challenging conditions before and after the birth of their baby.

At Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, we do not just care for your baby, we care for you and your family.

Newborn Patient Transfers

Hundreds of newborn babies a year are transferred to our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) from hospitals in the Greater New York metropolitan region. Our 24/7 transport service can arrange for transfer of critically ill newborns from referring hospitals via specially staffed and equipped vehicles. The transport team works closely with the referring physician to assure that the infant is stabilized and able to be moved.
