Carrie Ruzal-Shapiro, MD
Chief, Division of Pediatric Radiology

The Division of Pediatric Radiology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has a long, proud tradition of developing and refining diagnostic imaging services for children. Dr. John Caffey, regarded throughout the world as the "father of pediatric radiology," developed the first department of pediatric radiology here in 1929. Dr. Walter E. Berdon, Director Emeritus of Pediatric Radiology at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, described many of the well-known pediatric conditions, including necrotizing enterocolitis and prune belly syndrome.

Our pediatric radiologists understand the unique needs of children, parents, and pediatricians and work collaboratively as part of the diagnostic team to provide the best possible care for your child. Our radiology and imaging facilities are equipped with the most technologically advanced equipment, specially designed or adapted for children. We provide image interpretation in a timely manner to facilitate an accurate and efficient diagnosis.

Our highly trained pediatric radiologists perform more than 40,000 exams each year. They provide a full range of inpatient and outpatient imaging services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine, routine radiography, angiography, and interventional procedures.

The Division's 64-slice CT scanner represents the latest in imaging technology, offering unparalleled resolution and quick scanning times. In addition to pediatric radiologists, our staff also includes a dedicated pediatric neuroradiologist. Our pediatric anesthesiologists supervise imaging procedures that require sedation, which may be used to help your child relax and remain comfortable and still during an exam.

Our staff takes great care to address any fears or anxieties your child may have about having an imaging test, and we make sure that the procedures we are performing are being completed with as little radiation exposure as possible.
