Lead Poisoning Program
NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has taken an active role in decreasing the rate of lead poisoning in its communities. As mandated by New York State law, children ages one to six who are seen at the Hospital are tested for blood lead level. The Hospital has established a unique outpatient clinic to provide treatment for lead poisoning, either by IV injection or with oral medications. In addition, the Hospital worked closely with the Office of the Manhattan Borough President to create a "lead safe house" where children with lead poisoning and their families can be sheltered until necessary repairs are made to their apartment.
