Digestive Disorders (Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition)
Joel E. Lavine, MD, PhD
Director, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and NutritionDigestive and nutritional disorders can have a profound impact on the life of a child and his or her family, impairing growth and development, causing discomfort, and/or reducing quality of life. The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (Digestive and Liver Disease) of NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has long been at the forefront of care and research for children with gastrointestinal diseases.
Our program is recognized as a major center in the Tri-State area for the advanced diagnosis and treatment of digestive and liver disorders, including:
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Celiac disease
- Cystic fibrosis
- Short bowel syndrome
- Pancreatic disorders
- Hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and other liver-related disorders
- Eosinophilic esophagitis (a disease of the immune system that causes inflammation in the esophagus)
- Gastrointestinal motility disorders
For patients with severe liver and intestinal disease, our Hospital is home to the only program in New York that can perform both liver and small bowel transplantation. (see Liver Transplant and End-Stage Liver Disease)
We deliver comprehensive family-centered care at a number of locations, including our modern and comfortable outpatient facility at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, as well as several convenient outpatient sites in other parts of Manhattan, the Bronx, New Jersey, Westchester County, Rockland County, and Connecticut. If additional testing is indicated during a medical evaluation, all laboratory tests, radiologic studies, and procedures can be performed within the Hospital by our expert staff and technicians.
