Urology
Kenneth I. Glassberg, MD
Director, Division of UrologyThe Division of Pediatric Urology began in the early 1950's under the leadership of John K. Lattimer, MD, ScD. Over the next 25 years, Dr. Lattimer developed an expertise in treating congenital anomalies. The database he developed in bladder exstrophy remains one of largest in the United States.
Leadership of the Division of Pediatric Urology was assumed in 1978 by Terry W. Hensle, MD, an internationally recognized expert in reconstructive urology. In 2003, Dr. Hensle stepped down and Kenneth I. Glassberg, MD, an international expert in incontinence, became the current Director of Pediatric Urology at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.
Pediatric urologists manage conditions affecting the adrenal gland and kidney, as well as the bladder, urethra and genitalia. The Pediatric Urology program of Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is among the most active in the country, focusing on problems of urinary obstruction, urinary incontinence, vesicoureteral reflux, adolescent varicocele, undescended testes, genital abnormalities, including hypospadias, as well as tumors of the kidney, bladder, vagina and testes in children. It is nationally recognized for innovative programs in the reconstruction of several genito-urinary malformations and ambiguous genitalia.
In addition, the pediatric urologists at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital are also world renowned leaders in the evaluation and management of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). The Robotic Surgery Center opened three years ago under the direction of Richard Schlussel, MD, who has been advancing the role of this minimally invasive modality for urologic surgery in children. The Division of Pediatric Urology also offers one of the most advanced programs in urodynamic evaluation and bladder management in the country for children with incontinence or the bladder problems associated with spina bifida. Under the direction of Andrew Combs, PA-C, and Dr. Glassberg, the Urodynamic Laboratory, has made major contributions to our understanding of voiding function in children. The skill of Grace Hyun, MD, in stone disase and her interest in urinary tract reconststruction, along with Dr. Hensle, rounds out the strength of the Division
