Vascular Care

The Vascular Care Centers at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for all aspects of vascular disease. As one of the world's leading vascular research centers, NewYork-Presbytarian surgeons are at the cutting edge of new therapies, and are uniquely qualified to offer superb diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services. Our goal is excellence in health care combined with compassion and caring.

Vascular disease is complex and requires a wide range of expertise for appropriate and effective treatment. The Vascular Care Centers at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center offer broad-based, completely integrated, advanced, and comprehensive care. The Vascular Care Centers have specific centers for hypertension, lipid and cholesterol control, acute stroke, wounds, and special care for the senior population. The Stroke Center, based in the Department of Neurology, is a ground-breaking program concentrating on stroke prevention and the treatment of cerebrovascular accidents. The Irving Sherwood Wright Center, associated with the Vascular Care Centers, is devoted to the management of elderly patients who are most susceptible to vascular disease. The Columbia University Vascular Laboratory, directed by one of the few physicians in the region to be a certified as a vascular sonographer/technologist, specializes in non-invasive vascular imaging.

The Vascular Care Centers at both Medical Centers are committed to remaining on the cutting edge of research in vascular disease. Surgeons treat the full range of vascular disorders, with particular specialization in treatment of aortic aneurysms, carotid artery surgery, arterial bypass, and angioplasty, treatments for diseases of the veins and chronic leg ulcerations, and in amputation prevention. Treatments involve proven state-of-the-art therapies and, when appropriate, exciting new investigational modalities. We have recently pioneered new techniques in endovascular surgery for the repair of aortic aneurisms, and in minimal access procedures for carotid artery disease.

The Vascular Care Centers' philosophy maintains a strong emphasis on measures to prevent progressive vascular disease. Rigorous programs for smoking cessation and exercise, as well as world-renowned specialists in the management of cholesterol and high blood pressure, help patients maintain lifestyles supportive of a healthy vascular system. Children and families at risk for inherited or acquired cholesterol and lipid disorders can be evaluated and treated through our affiliated Lipid Control Centers.
