The Neuroscience Centers combine the unparalleled expertise of two leading programs, the Neurological Institute of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Neuroscience Center.
The Neurological Institute at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, founded in 1909, is internationally recognized as the first medical center in North America to specialize in the treatment of diseases of the nervous system. Among the long list of the Institute's accomplishments, it treats the largest stroke caseload worldwide, has the lowest mortality rate for aneurysm surgery in New York State, and is a pioneer in the development of hypothermic arrest surgery.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell's Neuroscience Center has a distinguished history of providing comprehensive care to patients suffering from neurologic disorders. In addition, the Center is a leader in innovative research to further our understanding and treatment of neurologic disorders. The Neuroscience Center is credited with several notable achievements, including pioneering vagus nerve stimulation as a therapy for epilepsy patients, creating an internationally recognized protocol for the treatment of traumatic brain injury, and leading the way in multiple sclerosis research.
