David Roye, Jr., MD Honored with Humanism Award

Ranked among the top 10 children's hospitals in the nation and #1 in New York by U.S.News & World Report

David P. Roye, Jr., MD, Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, received the prestigious Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. The award is bestowed each year at the graduation ceremony of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons to a faculty member and a graduating medical student who exemplifies outstanding humanism in medicine by their compassion and sensitivity in the delivery of care to patients and their families, as well as demonstrated clinical excellence.

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to nurturing and preserving the tradition of the caring physician. The organization initiated the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award in 1991 to honor its namesake for his commitment to fostering social justice, innovative medical research and humanism in medicine. The first award was bestowed at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and has since been delivered at over 85 of the country's medical schools.

In his address at the commencement exercise regarding Dr. Roye's qualifications, Lee Goldman, MD, Dean of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, said "David is a perfect example of what this award signifies. He shares his compassion with his patients and his students not only here at Columbia, but also throughout the world."

The graduating senior receiving the award this year was Hadi Halazun.
