Pediatric Sleep Disorders Center

At one time or another, most parents must have coped with a child's sleep problem. Some sleep disorders — such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and behavioral sleep issues — can have serious consequences affecting a child's mood, memory, academic performance, and general health. Not getting enough quality sleep can impair your child's ability to concentrate, inhibit the immune system, and make your child more prone to accidents.

The early diagnosis and treatment of a sleep disorder promotes your child's long-term health and development. The sleep specialists at the Pediatric Sleep Disorders Center at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, a full service sleep center accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, are available to help.

Led by Carin I. Lamm, MD, and Kristin Kelly-Pieper, MD, our team performs the full range of sleep studies required to diagnose a sleep disorder, including daytime and overnight studies (with you sleeping in the same room as your child). Sleep studies are conducted by our friendly sleep technicians, who are experts in performing sleep studies in children. Once a diagnosis is made, the team recommends treatment, which may include surgery (such as removal of the tonsils and/or adenoids), a device to prevent sleep apnea, medications, or behavioral recommendations if needed.

Sleep specialists use a multidisciplinary approach to helping children with sleep disturbances. Many pediatric specialists with expertise in disorders that affect sleep are available for consultation when needed at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. These include pediatric ENT physicians, obesity experts, bariatric surgeons, developmental specialists, craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, neuromuscular physicians, and gastroenterologists.
