Psychiatry (Child and Adolescent)
Lourival Baptista Neto, MD
Director, Division of Psychiatry and Mental HealthNewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital offers one of the largest child and adolescent psychiatry programs in the country, providing specialized diagnostic, therapeutic, and crisis intervention services to several thousand children annually. Our young patients benefit from routine diagnostic and treatment services, as well as comprehensive crisis intervention services. Our mission is to improve the accessibility and quality of mental health services to children, adolescents and their family members.
Our Children's Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (C-CPEP) is one of the only such programs in the country specially designed for children and adolescents. At this unique facility, children having psychiatric emergencies are evaluated in a separate emergency department staffed around the clock by child psychiatric specialists.
The Child Psychiatry Division also provides a full complement of services at specialized outpatient clinics that address disruptive behavior disorders, child anxiety and depression, pervasive developmental disorders, and psychotic disorders. In addition, the Hospital offers community-based mental health services that include on-site school-based mental health in 15 local elementary schools and child psychiatry and psychology services integrated into five primary care clinics.
For patients who have been hospitalized for medical or surgical treatment, we provide psychiatric consultations to facilitate their ability to participate in their medical care, to help them cope with their illness or injury, to ease the anxiety around difficult tests and procedures, and to enhance their recovery. Psychiatric evaluations also are integrated with the clinical assessment of patients who are candidates for heart, lung, bone marrow and kidney transplantation.
Our patients and their families benefit from the expertise of a caring and highly skilled team of psychiatric specialists and have access to a wide range of services and programs tailored to their individual needs and diagnosis.
