Primary Care/General Pediatrics

Research

NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is dedicated to providing primary care services to the communities it serves.

Our Primary Care program has an active agenda of health services research projects that are focusing on the complex needs of children and families living in underserved urban communities. Some of these research projects are exclusive to the Division of General Pediatrics but many are linked to partnerships with other academic units within Columbia University, community based organizations in northern Manhattan and other academic institutions around the country.

Among these many projects are those focusing on

  • co-occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse;
  • disparity of infant mortality: A comparison of NYC neighborhoods;
  • descriptive epidemiology of childhood injuries;
  • engagement and retention of families in a home visitation program;
  • an innovative model for graduate medical education in a pediatric residency program;
  • needs assessment for children with special healthcare needs;
  • partnership for better health for children in a special education school;
  • postpartum primary care;
  • a randomized clinical trial to test the efficacy of a paraprofessional home visitation program;
  • risk factors and mental health consequences of child abuse and neglect.
