Physical and Occupational Therapy

In the Spasticity Center, physical and occupational therapists:

  • Identify primary concerns of the patient and caregivers, and provide support around their concers
  • Perform patient assessments, including evaluation of tone, range of motion and motor control, trunk strength, balance, and functional mobility, and identify weaknesses
  • Provide input on suggested interventions for the patient
  • Assess equipment and suggest modifications, as appropriate
  • Provide clinical support, including determining preparedness for intervention agreed upon by Spasticity Team, answering questions regarding specific interventions, and assessing response to interventions
  • Speak with school, home, and outpatient and rehabilitation therapists on behalf of patient and family
  • Modify therapy recommendations based on feedback from therapists in the field
  • Assist with coordination of patient follow-up
