Philip L. Graham III, MD, MSc, Appointed Patient Safety Officer, Children's Services

Dr. Philip L. Graham III has been appointed the Quality and Patient Safety Officer for Children's Services at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, and The Allen Pavilion. In this newly created position, Dr. Graham will play a lead role in helping to drive and implement Quality and Patient Safety initiatives, furthering our efforts to achieve a high reliability organization.

In his new role, Dr. Graham will report directly to Eliot J. Lazar, MD, Vice President and Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer for NewYork-Presbyterian. He will support the Pediatric Clinical Departments and Children's Service Line Leadership, as well as Operations Leadership at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, the Komansky Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, and the nurseries and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Allen Pavilion. He will also coordinate his efforts with Dr. Joseph Cooke, Quality and Patient Safety Officer at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, and Dr. Robert Green, Quality and Patient Safety Officer at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Columbia. Dr. Graham assumes this important role while continuing his leadership responsibilities in Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases, reporting to Dr. Laura Forese.

Dr. Graham graduated from the George Washington School of Medicine in 1998 and did both a residency in Pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. He was appointed to the Columbia University Pediatric Infectious Disease faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2004. He serves as the Assistant Hospital Epidemiologist at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and the Hospital Epidemiologist for Women and Children's Health at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, where he was appointed to the faculty as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in 2006. He also holds a Masters degree in Biostatistics and Patient Oriented Research from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

Dr. Graham has received a variety of honors and awards including: the Housestaff Teaching Fellow of the Year award (2002), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Travel Award (2002), the Jonathan Freeman Scholarship, SHEA/CDC Training Course in Healthcare Epidemiology (2003), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Mentor Scholar Award (2003), the Rustin McIntosh Fellowship, Babies Hospital Alumni Association (2004), and was named Physician of the Year at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian (2007).
