Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy Services
NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital attends to the spiritual and emotional needs of children, adolescents, and their families through its Pastoral Care Department. Chaplains of various faiths are available for counseling and professional guidance, as well as to help maintain religious practices, rituals, and observances during hospitalization.
The Pauline A. Hartford Memorial Chapel, a non-denominational chapel open to all visitors, patients and staff, is located on the first floor of the Presbyterian Hospital building (622 West 168th Street). It can be easily reached from Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital through the rear entrance to the courtyard behind the Hospital.
Regular religious services offered are:
- Roman Catholic Mass: Monday - Friday - 12:05 pm
- Jewish (Mincha) Service: Monday - Thursday - 1:40 pm
- Muslim (Juma) Service: Friday - 1 pm - 2:30 pm
- Interfaith Service: Thursday - 11:30 am
Saturday - 5:15 pm
Sunday - 8:30 am
Children and families are welcome to attend services in the chapel with approval from their physician. Ask a member of the nursing staff, who will arrange for an escort to take the child to and from services.
All services held in the chapel may also be viewed via the in-room television.
A smaller chapel, the Roman Catholic Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, located on the second floor, is open from 8:30 am - 5 pm for prayer and contemplation.
In addition to regular office hours, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York will provide priests for emergencies overnight, weekends, and holidays. To contact a priest, call the page operator at (212) 305-2323 or extension 5-2323 if calling from within the Hospital and request the operator to page the priest on duty.
The Department of Pastoral Care and Education, which is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, invites you to reach out and utilize their services. You may also simply ask a member of the nursing staff or a social worker to contact Pastoral Care or contact the department directly at (212) 305-5817.
