Who We Are

NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and the Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health in partnership with their affiliated universities, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill Cornell Medical College, have served the needs of the New York metropolitan and surrounding areas for more than a century. A legacy of excellence in medicine, research and medical education has positioned our Hospital as a leader in clinical care, not only in New York State, but also across the nation. As a premier academic medical center, we recognize the profound responsibility that comes with that achievement to be a leading voice on children's health issues. Adding a voice to children's advocacy on a city, state and national level that is informed by our healthcare experience and the establishment of the Center for Children's Health Advocacy enables our Hospital to fulfill its mission and responsibility to the community at large.

The Center for Children's Health Advocacy will propose and support policies and initiatives that improve the health and welfare of all children. The Center is designed to create a model of advocacy for children and their families, especially medically underserved pediatric populations, and to increase awareness of issues that affect this vulnerable population.

Our Mission

The mission of the Center for Children's Health Advocacy is to convene healthcare professionals, institutions, researchers, educators, community based organizations, families, funders and corporations to better understand the issues affecting the health and welfare of children, and to advance and shape policies and programs for positive change at the local, state and national levels. The center also supports the development of strategies to fully engage families in our advocacy efforts.

Let your voice be heard! If you would like to learn about current legislation in children's health, such as the recently approved bill on the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), contact Violet Moss at vim9041@nyp.org.

SCHIP is a joint federal and state program that currently provides coverage to more than 6 million uninsured children from working families who are not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. The program was recently signed into law by President Obama, reauthorizing SCHIP for the next four and one-half years while expanding coverage to 4 million more children.
