Heather on Earth Music Therapist
The Heather on Earth Music Therapist is a credentialed professional who provides therapeutic music sessions with Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital patients and families.
Children who are hospitalized may have a great deal of fear, anxiety and perceived loss of control. Music therapy allows children to express themselves and helps make the hospital environment more manageable. The Heather on Earth Music Therapist meets with patients and families individually to assess needs and determine appropriate interventions.
Various live musical options, such as singing, listening, moving, playing instruments and creative activities, are used to help decrease stress, improve coping and help manage pain. In addition, studies have shown that live music has reduced the need for sedatives, decreased crying and agitation, and shortened the length of time needed for some medical procedures.
The Heather on Earth Music Therapist position is currently funded by a generous donation from the Heather on Earth Music Foundation. We are very grateful to the Heather on Earth Music Foundation for this opportunity to add this important and meaningful psychosocial service to those provided by Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital to patients and families.
