The Division of Nursing at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center has named six Physicians of the Year. The second annual awards recognize physicians who consistently practice with nurses in a collaborative and collegial manner.
This year's recipients include Dr. Igor Ougorets (assistant attending neurologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and assistant professor of neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College), Dr. Francisco Pacheco (assistant attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College), Dr. Mark Pochapin (director of the Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and associate professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College), Dr. Roger Yurt (director of the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and the Johnson & Johnson Distinguished Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College), Dr. Thomas Botta (fellow, pulmonary medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell) and Dr. Theresa Amato (resident, emergency medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell).
"Collaboration between physicians and nursing staff is a critical component that has a positive impact upon patient outcomes and patient-centered care," says Suzanne Boyle, D.N.Sc, R.N., vice president of patient-care services at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
Nominees for the award are identified by their nurse colleagues and supported by letters from other professional staff. The awards will be conferred at a special ceremony on Nov. 16 at the Weill Cornell Griffis Faculty Club.
