Dr. Jonathan M. Chen is an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Director of Pediatric Cardiovascular Services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Chen completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University and his medical education at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He trained in both General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and subsequently finished successive fellowships in heart transplantation, ventricular assist devices, and congenital cardiac surgery.

As Director of Pediatric Cardiovascular Services at Weill Cornell, Dr. Chen oversees the clinical operations, research and global health initiatives of both Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery.

He is currently a co-investigator on several national ventricular assist device (VAD) trials, and on a multidisciplinary National Heart-Lung Blood Institute (NHLBI) Specialized Centers of Clinically Oriented Research (SCCOR) grant evaluating long-term mechanical ventricular assistance. His particular interest is in the development and design of a ventricular assist device for infants and small children.

Dr. Chen is jointly appointed at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.

Dr. Chen has participated in humanitarian efforts to extend pediatric cardiac surgery to developing nations internationally and has taught surgeons and cardiologists at the Teda International Cardiovascular Hospital in Tianjin, China, the Phnom Penh Heart Center in Cambodia, the Fann Heart Center in Dakar, Senegal, and the Jilin Heart Institute in Changchun, China. He is regularly named as one of New York Magazine's Top 100 Doctors in New York.
