Save the Date: 2009 JFK Tower Golf Tournament to Benefit the Pulmonary Hypertension Center, June 29

Save the date -- June 29, 2009 -- for the 2009 JFK Tower Golf Tournament. The year, the proceeds will also benefit the Pulmonary Hypertension Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. The eighth annual non-profit benefit, organized each year by Steve Abraham, an air traffic controller at John F. Kennedy Airport, raises funds to find a cure for Pulmonary Hypertension, a rare degenerative disease affecting the heart and lungs. The tournament is in honor of Mr. Abraham's daughter Rachel, 10, who is battling this debilitating disorder.
In the past, proceeds have gone to The Pulmonary Hypertension Association and SKIP (Sick Kids need Involved People) of New York, an agency that provides advocacy and support for families who care for their chronically ill, medically fragile, or developmentally disabled children at home. The tournament this year will benefit the Pulmonary Hypertension Center, which has overseen Rachel's care for the last nine years. "We owe them a debt that can never be repaid," notes Mr. Abraham. "It is our hope to take the total amount donated to over $275,000 this year."
The tournament will be hosted by the Ridgeway Country Club in White Plains, New York. Play will take place at both the Ridgeway Country Club and at the Westchester Hills Country Club across the street. The two venues, which together can accommodate 200 players in the tourney, will provide a brunch, on course food and beverages, and locker room facilities for all participants. The after-golf cocktail hour and banquet will be held at the Ridgeway Country Club. Both clubs are Par 71 and feature narrow fairways, difficult greens, and strategically placed bunkers making both courses challenging for all levels.
Diane Kerstein, MD, a pediatric cardiologist with the Pulmonary Hypertension Center, will be on hand to answer any questions about pulmonary hypertension.
