It's prom season, and teenagers across the country are celebrating this rite of passage. Despite their chronic and life-threatening illnesses, patients at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital planned and held their own prom, Moonlight Masquerade, at the Hospital. The special evening took place on Saturday, May 15, 2010, as some 40 teenagers created memories to last a lifetime.

Dressed in prom gowns and tuxedos, generously provided by Bloomingdale's, J.P. Morgan, and anonymous donors, they posed for prom photos upon entering the "Moonlight Masquerade"-themed ballroom created by Cornucopia Events by Dorothy Pfeiffer and Party Rental Ltd. Professional hairstylists from Frederic Fekkai and make-up artists pampered and provided the full red carpet salon treatment prior to the big event. During the festivities, there was a surprise guest appearance by American Idol contestant Michael Lynche who sang for the guests, and a three-course sit-down dinner was served. To cap things off, a limousine, courtesy of U.S. Limousine Service Ltd., was parked at the Hospital entrance for photo opportunities.

On Wednesday prior to the prom, some of the patients attended a dress shopping party at Bloomingdale's organized just for them. All outfits for the teens who attended the prom were generously donated by Bloomingdale's and anonymous donors. The prom was planned and organized each step of the way by the Hospital's Children's Helping Advisory Team (C.H.A.T.), a group of teen patients who volunteer their time to make the hospital a better place. The C.H.A.T. members assist in creating a positive hospital stay, helping fellow patients, advocating for patients' rights, and teaching teamwork.

The evening began with a welcome from Lori Armstrong, RN, MSN, Vice President, Nursing and Patient Care Services, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, and Melanie Chaite and Willa Isikoff, Co-Presidents of C.H.A.T. This is the second year that Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has hosted prom night.
