Dr. Melvin P. Rosenwasser
Dr. Melvin P. Rosenwasser is the Director of the Orthopaedic Hand and Trauma Service at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. He holds the academic title of Robert E. Carroll Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has lectured nationally and internationally and has acted as Chairman of many national and local hand and trauma meetings.
Dr. Rosenwasser has been recognized in New York Magazine's "Best Doctors in New York" Hall of Fame. He has also been co-principal investigator on numerous NIH grants and awards. Dr. Rosenwasser has had numerous publications on surgery of the upper extremity as well as trauma-related surgery for both upper and lower extremities.
His specialties of orthopedic hand and trauma surgery combine to make him a unique specialist in that he can accommodate any traumatic orthopedic extremity problem as well as arthritic and congenital anomalies of the upper extremity.
Dr. Robert J. StrauchDr. Robert J. Strauch is a Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University. He has completed nearly all of his post-high school training at Columbia University, including college, medical school and orthopedic surgery residency. His fellowship in the specialty of hand surgery was done at the Indiana Hand Center followed by additional training in microsurgery in Taiwan. He joined the faculty at Columbia in 1992 and since then has been engaged in the full-time practice of hand surgery, in children and adults. Hand surgery is an exciting field which involves the care of hand and upper extremity problems through both non-surgical and surgical methods.
Dr. Strauch has a special interest in nerve problems of the upper extremity (including carpal tunnel syndrome) and in treating congenital hand disorders. He has authored and co-authored many articles in the field of Hand Surgery and continues to actively engage in basic and clinical research, especially in the treatment of hand arthritis. He is also an amateur magician and has been known to entertain (with prestidigitation), as well as to diagnose and treat his patients. Children, especially, actually look forward to a return office visit. Dr. Strauch is married to a Columbia-trained physician and they have three children.
