NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has a broad range of diagnostic and treatment expertise in allergies, immunologic diseases, and respiratory disorders. The Hospital's allergists provide comprehensive allergy testing and management.

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center is cited as one of the best pulmonary disease programs in the country and encompasses several specialized groups.

The John Wood-John Edsall Asthma Center includes both a dedicated inpatient service and a specialized outpatient clinic. The Center provides specialized diagnostic services, immunotherapy, and screening for other diseases that often are associated with asthma. In addition, Asthma Center staff review environmental triggers to determine which indoor and outdoor allergens might activate symptoms. In some cases, home visits by nursing agencies to review environmental exposures will be arranged.

The Division's Cardiopulmonary Sleep and Ventilatory Disorders Laboratory is a newly developed comprehensive program that addresses a wide array of breathing disorders associated with sleep, such as obstructive sleep apnea; apnea and periodic breathing associated with congestive heart failure and neurologic disease; sudden infant death syndrome; nocturnal asthma; and disorders of ventilation associated with obesity, chronic obstructive lung disease, and neuromuscular disorders.

The Center for Chest Disease employs an innovative treatment – lung volume reduction surgery – for severe emphysema. Other programs in the Division address lung transplantation, interventional bronchoscopy, and adult cystic fibrosis.

The Division of Immunology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center features the Asthma & Allergy Clinic and Immunology Consultation Service, both of which are specialized to diagnose and treat disorders of the immune system that are expressed as hypersensitivity. Specialized services provided include hypersensitivity diagnostic skin testing, allergen immunotherapy, pulmonary function testing, immunologic diagnostic services, rhinolaryngoscopy, counseling regarding allergic disorders, and the diagnosis and treatment of allergies due to drugs, environmental allergens, food, and insects. In addition, Weill Cornell Pulmonary Associates specializes in all aspects of pulmonary disease at a state-of-the-art medical facility.
