Child Advocacy and Protection
NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is committed to keeping children out of harm's way, calling on its expertise in child advocacy and protection to provide programs that seek to prevent abuse and neglect and assist families that are victims.
In 1995, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital established in the Child Advocacy Center one of the first hospital-based programs dedicated to serving victims of abuse and neglect and their families. The Center offers a safe haven for children, with every effort made to minimize the physical and emotional trauma of their experiences. Its specialized services include 24-hour availability for medical consultations, prompt medical examinations and treatment, psychological assessments, support services and coordinated investigations with city agencies. Interviews are conducted jointly, reducing the need for the child to repeat his or her story. The Center works closely with the Police Department, child welfare agencies, educators and other professionals to improve the investigation, prosecution and management of child abuse cases.
