Allergy and Immunology

David J. Resnick, MD
Director, Division of Allergy and Immunology

Allergies and asthma are among the most common health problems, with more than 50 million people afflicted with some type of allergic condition each year. The Division of Allergy and Immunology diagnoses and treats infants, children and adults for a wide range of allergic conditions and immune deficiencies-from the more common asthma, hay fever and food allergies to rarer and more difficult to diagnose diseases such as hereditary angioneurotic edema, a syndrome of swelling in the deep layers of the skin.

Our skilled and experienced physicians work closely with our young patients and their families to accurately pinpoint allergy triggers and then to find an appropriate treatment plan. This is accomplished in part through a careful and comprehensive medical history, followed by specific diagnostic testing as needed. Our physicians are also at the forefront of the latest and most effective therapies available today.

Education is a key component of our program. We want our patients and their families to become active and knowledgeable participants in their own treatment plan and health care. We pride ourselves on taking the time to focus on the triggers that can lead to their allergic reactions, and how to eliminate those triggers. We also help our patients understand their medications and the appropriate way to use them.

In addition, as part of a major academic medical center, we often collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines, including Pulmonology, Dermatology, Otolaryngology, and Gastroenterology, to offer our patients the highest quality of care and most comprehensive treatment available.
