Dr. Linda J. Addonizio Honored by 2010 National Association for Female Executives
(Dec 10, 2010)
The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) defines a "woman of excellence" as one who has achieved success in her own right, then shown courage and compassion in helping others. This year NAFE awarded Linda J. Addonizio, MD, Medical Director, Program for Pediatric Cardiomyopathy, Heart Failure and Transplantation at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, with its Children's Health Advocate award at its 2010 NAFE Women of Excellence ceremony.
The National Association for Female Executives and Entrepreneurs, founded in 1972, serves 10,000 members nationwide and advocates for their careers and business success. NAFE annually honors outstanding members, often who have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their lives and their work, who then have worked tirelessly to serve their communities and other women. "Our Women of Excellence winners, all NAFE members, have wowed us with their commitment to service as well as self, having reached notable goals in their own careers and in serving the well-being of others," says Dr. Betty Spence, NAFE President. Dr. Addonizio was among 12 women honored at this year's NAFE awards event.
Dr. Addonizio, who is Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, was instrumental in the development of the pediatric heart transplant program at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, where the first successful heart transplant on a child was performed in 1984. Today the Hospital performs some 25 pediatric heart transplants a year, more than any other hospital in the country, with a 90 percent success rate. "Our whole team considers these kids as our family," says Dr. Addonizio. "You get to know them as young infants, see them grow up, and have a family of their own. I don't forget any of these children."
