Center for Prenatal Pediatrics
The physicians at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital have a long tradition of professional collaboration between specialty areas. In high-risk cases, where the baby has a birth defect, the mother may need specialized adult care while the fetus requires a pediatric focus. The Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, founded in January 2004 with the help of a March of Dimes Community Grant, brings together the leading specialists in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics and Surgery. Through the guidance of a Case Coordinator, patients at the Center receive a full range of prenatal diagnostic testing, specialist consultations, genetic counseling and pregnancy management with preparation for future pediatric care.
Complex, high-risk pregnancies usually require several specialists and a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures over the course of multiple visits. What sets The Center for Prenatal Pediatrics apart is its highly personalized, integrated approach to care. Early diagnosis, evaluation and ongoing monitoring allow both physicians and families to maximize information in preparation for the birth of an affected baby, both medically and emotionally. This interdisciplinary and unified approach sets new standards of care and support for pregnant women and their families and increases positive pediatric outcomes.
The Center is committed to making sure that patients are cared for with the most sensitive, complete, up-to-date information and testing to get the best picture of what to expect while pregnant, at delivery, and after birth. NYPH is designated by New York State as a Regional Perinatal Center, one that has the ability to care for the most difficult, complicated cases. In addition, the hospital has one of the largest, most-experienced high-risk obstetrics teams in the country, a neonatal intensive care unit recognized by the National Institute of Health for its extremely low incidence of chronic lung disease, the largest pediatric cardiac services in the New York area and a newly-renovated labor and delivery unit and NICU.
